cookie-use Chrome Extension
Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 1, 2026
Summary
cookie-use does not collect, transmit, or share any data. Everything stays on your device.
1. What cookie-use does
cookie-use is a Chrome browser extension that reads cookies, localStorage, and IndexedDB from the currently active tab and exports them as a JSON file. The export is saved locally to your device or copied to your clipboard. No data is sent to any server.
2. Data we do not collect
cookie-use does not collect, store, or transmit:
- Cookies or browser storage data from your tabs
- Browsing history or URLs you visit
- Personal information of any kind
- Analytics, telemetry, or crash reports
3. Permissions explained
cookies
Required to read httpOnly and secure cookies that JavaScript cannot access directly. Cookies are only read when you click Copy JSON or Download .json — never in the background.
activeTab
Grants temporary access to the current tab when you click the extension icon. No access to other tabs or background tabs.
scripting
Used to inject a script into the current page to read localStorage and IndexedDB. Only runs when you initiate a capture.
downloads
Used to save the exported JSON file to your local disk when you click Download .json.
optional host permissions (<all_urls>)
Requested on demand, per site, the first time you capture a site's cookies. Chrome shows a permission dialog — you control which sites are granted access. You can revoke access at any time in Chrome's extension settings.
4. Local processing only
All capture and export logic runs entirely within your browser. The extension has no backend server and makes no network requests. The exported JSON file goes directly to your clipboard or your local filesystem.
5. Third-party services
cookie-use does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising services.
6. Changes to this policy
If this policy is updated, the new version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date.
